Jan 6/11
- It is time
for the first meeting of the 2011 season. This meeting will be taking place
on Friday January 14 @ 700pm at the Langford Legion (sorry
for the short notice but this is the only date they had available for us
this month).
We will be electing your 2011 executive and from what I have heard there
are a few of the rules that some of you would like to discuss. Please keep
in mind that it is 1 vote per registered car # (and you must have paid the
full membership cost) from the 2010 season. If the driver can not make the
meeting they are welcome to send somebody to vote on their behalf, but that
person must have been a registered crew member for that car # in the 2010
season. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting but votes will only be
taken from those of you who are eligable. Please also keep in mind we will
not be going over the whole rule book, time does not permit us to do that.
If you have any questions or concerns as to any of this please let anyone
of the 2010 executive know ASAP.

Sept
25 /10 - The
weather forecast was for rain in Victoria but blue skies and sunshine
was the order for the day. The forecast for Western Speedway was for close
racing with three new Champions crowned for 2010 in the I.M.S. 4 Mini
Stock Series, the Late Model Series, and the Stock Car Series. The program
included Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Feature events for all three classes
with good hard racing in a couple of Heat events. Gray Abbott and Daryl
Crocker showed the way in the Stock Car Dash races. The Stock Car B Heat
also saw great
racing as Dave Reside, Daryl Crocker, and Kevin Knight ran three wide
in the middle of the race for close to a full lap before Reside got a
good run and then passed Chris McInerny for the lead on the last lap for
the win. Brandon Hutchinson and Jeremy Gardener led the field of sixteen
cars to the green flag and sixty laps of racing for the Stock Car Championship.
Ryan Wade had just a twenty point lead over Aaron Wilkie as they entered
this race and started well back in eleventh and twelveth starting spots.
Hutchinson grabbed the lead early and stayed in front for the first five
laps until he was passed by Billy Stidston on lap six. Dave Reside and
Chris McInerny followed him through to run second and third respectively.
On lap nine, Wade moved up to run fourth behind Kyle Cottam who had also
moved up to run third. Meanwhile
up front Reside and Stidston took turns leading over the next couple of
laps. On lap thirteen, Wade moved up and took over the second spot with
Wilkie close behind taking over third while Reside finally got the clear
lead away from Stidston who got freight trained all the way back to fourth.
On lap twenty-one, Wade passed Reside and took over the lead with Wilkie
still glued to the back bumper of the #95 car. Reside's good run came
to an end two laps later leaving Stidston and now Steve Copp running fourth
and fifth. On lap twenty-six, Copp took over the fourth spot sending Stidston
back to fifth. On lap thirty-one the yellow came out as Tyler Woods spun
around coming out of turn four. On the double file restart, Wade got away
again while Wilkie entered the pits with a flat tire. On lap thirty-four,
Copp got by Cottam and ran second behind Wade who began to open a pretty
good lead over the rest of the
field. By lap thirty-six, Wilkie pushed his way from the back all the
way up to fourth to run behind Cottam. On lap forty-two Wilkie passed
Cottam and took over the third spot with the laps and time running out.
No one could prevent Wade from taking the Feature event and winning his
fourth consecutive Stock Car Championship as he took the chequered flag
with Copp, Wilkie, Cottam, and Stidston rounding out the top five positions.
Wade was very quick to go congratulate Wilkie on a great run and making
the run for the Championship so close all year. The voice of Rocky Horne
had hardly finished interviews when the heavens opened up and drenched
the track but to late to dampen Championship night for the I.M.S. 4 Mini
Stocks, the local Late Model Series, and the always competitive Stock
Cars bringing an end to the 2010 season for these drivers.

Sept
4 /10 - Giles
Cyr and Jeremy Gardener led the field of nineteen Stock Cars
to the line for thirty-five laps of racing with Cyr taking the early lead
followed by Billy Stidston and Brandon Hutchinson. On lap five, Sam Hunt
took over the fourth spot sending Gray Abbot back one spot. On lap thirteen
the yellow flag came out setting up a double file restart with Cyr and
Stidston sharing the front row. On lap fourteen, Dan Meyers moved into
the fourth position and then moved to third three laps later. On lap nineteen,
Steve Copp moved up to run fourth followed by Ryan Wade who had made his
way forward from the sixteenth starting spot. On
lap twenty-one the caution flag waved again setting up another double
file restart with Cyr and Meyers on the front row. With the drop of the
green flag, Meyers got the advantage taking over the lead dropping Cyr
back to second. Coming out of turn four, Cyr got turned around and was
hit by Daryl Crocker who had nowhere to go. The race was halted to clear
the track and clean up water from the damage done to Cyr's car. On the
restart, Meyers and Copp led the field back to green and as they entered
turn one Meyers spun around bringing out the yellow once again. This time
on the restart, Copp had Wade on his outside for the green flag but quickly
got the edge taking the lead followed by Wade and Aaron
Wilkie. Over the next few laps, Wade tried the outside and then the inside
to go by Copp and on lap thirty-two finally made it stick taking the lead
with Wilkie following him through. At the finish line it was Wade with
the win followed by Wilkie, Copp, Sam Hunt, and Hutchinson rounding out
the top five positions.
Aug
21/10 - Billy
Stidston had the pole for the start of the Stock Car Feature event with
Kevin Knight to his outside ready for thirty laps of racing. Stidston
took the lead after three laps only to have Ryan Wade pass him on the
eighth lap. Behind him Stidston, Daryl Crocker and Aaron Wilkie were dicing
for positions with Wilkie taking over the second spot on lap thirteen.
Dave Reside moved into the third spot on lap seventeen while Kirk Peacey,
driving the #15 car, moved into fourth two laps later. Over the remainder
of
this race nothing changed up front but Dan Myers did move up to take over
the fifth spot on lap twenty-three and followed Wade, with the win, Wilkie
in second, Reside, and Peacey to the chequered flag.

Aug
15/10 (Saratoga
Speedway)-The
Stock cars out of Victoria made a rare visit to the track for an important
point’s race. Fast time was set by #66 Larry Graham with a time of 16.994.
The racing just got better from there with #55 Jeff Hamstra taking the
win in the B heat and #32 Aaron Wilkie taking the win in the A. the 50
lap main saw #95 Ryan Wade dominate the field taking the lead on lap 9.
#15 Brandon Carlson would challenge late but Wade was to much as he went
on to win the 50 lap main. 2nd place went to #15 Brandon Carlson and 3rd
to #14 Daryl Crocker.

July
5/10 - Brandon
Hutchinson and Sam Hunt led the field of twenty cars to the green flag
for the start of seventy-five laps of racing in the Stock Car Series.
Hutchinson got the early lead followed by Hunt, Kyle Cottam, Kerry Steen,
and Larry Graham as the rest of the field jockeyed for positions. On lap
six Cottam took over the second spot dropping Hunt back one spot for the
next three laps and Graham dropping him back another spot on lap nine.
One lap later, Cottam took over the lead and was quickly followed by Graham
and Ryan Wade taking the third spot two laps later. Graham
diced with Cottam lap after lap until the yellow came out on lap sixteen
as a couple of cars got together coming out of turn four. On the double
file restart, Cottam had Wade on his outside as they came around for the
green flag. Cottam again got the advantage and went back to the lead with
Graham and Wade running bumper to bumper behind him. On lap twenty, Aaron
Wilkie moved up to run fourth dropping Steen back to fifth. Over the next
twenty plus laps the top five drivers ran bumper to bumper and kept looking
for the smallest of openings. On lap forty-five, Wilkie moved
to the inside of Wade and took over the third spot while Graham kept the
pressure on Cottam who was still holding the lead. On lap fifty-five,
a spinning car brought out the next yellow flag and on the double file
restart, Wade had the outside groove with Cottam on the inside and quickly
got the advantage taking over the lead. The positions changed virtually
on every lap as Cottam, Wilkie, and Graham raced side by side for a couple
of laps until Dan Myers spun on turn one bringing out another yellow flag.
On this double file restart, Wilkie found himself to the outside of Wade
with Graham and Cottam still in the mix. Graham moved into the second
spot on lap fifty-nine but slipped just enough for Wilkie to take the
spot on lap sixty-two. Behind the four front runners, Jason Frost, driving
the #14 car for this event, moved up to run fifth with Steve Copp running
in this tight group as well. On lap seventy, Graham tagged Wilkie just
enough to spin the second place car out and
this resulted in a yellow flag for the race and a black flag for Graham.
Wade this time would have Frost on his outside with Cottam, Steen, and
Wilkie still in the mix. When the dust settled five laps later, Wade held
on for the win followed by Cottam, Kerry Steen, Wilkie, and Frost rounding
out the top five positions. Wade said: "The car wasn't right. We chased
it all night but we'll take the win". This was a very competitive race
from start to finish as we have grown accustomed to in this Series. As
for the young Brandon Steen he only placed second in the Dash, first in
a Heat race and top ten in the Feature. Not too bad for the first time
in a Stock Car.
June
15 /10 - Larry
Graham came from his eleventh starting spot and held off many challenges
from Ryan Wade, Rory Smith, and Aaron Wilkie and won the Jerry Ferry Memorial
race at Victoria's Western Speedway Saturday night in a thrilling 100
lap race for the Stock Car Series.

The Stock Cars got off to a great start as Rory Smith, Aaron Wilkie, Ryan
Wade, and Larry Graham faced off in the A Trophy Dash. Wilkie got a nose
ahead of Smith on the first lap as all four cars ran side by side and
bumper to bumper throughout the four laps just the way it began. Coming
out of turn four Wilkie slapped the frontstetch wall a bit but kept the
hammer down and won the drag race to the checkered flag by just a few
inches over Smith while Ryan Wade tried to get inside Smith and placed
third just a fender behind the second place car in a three way bid for
the checkered flag.
Brandon
Hutchinson and Ronnie Kiefert led a field of eighteen Stock Cars to the
green flag for one-hundred laps of racing for the Jerry Ferrie Memorial
trophy. On the very first lap, Mike Rutty got tagged and slammed into
the frontstretch wall with a hard hit. He seemed to be fine other than
soreness in his back. After
a full restart Kiefert took the lead on lap three and held that until
lap eight when Rory Smith passed and took over the lead on lap nine with
Kiefert, Dave Reside, Steve Copp, and Ryan Wade taking the positions behind
the new leader. On lap fourteen Wade moved up to take over the second
spot dropping Kiefert back to third with Copp and Daryl Crocker occupying
the next positions. On lap seventeen Larry Graham moved up to run in the
fourth spot as Smith and Wade started to gain a big advantage over the
rest of the pack running bumper to bumper. The battle behind the frontrunners
was intense with Graham, Copp, and Wilkie diceing for positions in the
running order. On lap thirty-two the red flag came out as the Provincial
ambulance was called in to take Mike Rutty to the hospital for further
examination after the big crash earlier in the event. After a few minutes
delay, Wade lined up on Smith's outside in a double file restart with
Smith again grabbing the early advantage. Wade remained glued to the leader
trying numerous times over the next several laps to get by but each time
fell a little short of making a clean pass. At times there was a freight
train with Smith, Wade, Graham, Wilkie, and Copp with no space between
them running bumper to bumper lap after lap. On
lap fifty-two, Graham went to the inside of Wade and into the second spot
only to have the caution flag come out three laps later as track crews
were called to turn four to clean up a mess. On the double file restart,
Graham was on the outside of Smith as the field retook the green flag.
Wade rubbed Smith just enough to allow Graham to come out of the scrum
with the outright lead almost going three wide coming down the frontstretch.
By lap fifty-eight, Graham led followed by Wade, Smith, Kyle Cottam, and
Wilkie in the top five positions. Over the next several laps, Wade tried
everything in the book to get by Graham and again fell just short. On
lap seventy-seven the caution flag came out as Billy Stidston's car came
to a stop at the exit to turn four. On yet another double file restart,
Graham now had Wilkie on his outside as the field took the green flag.
Graham again gained the lead with Wade still glued to the bumper and still
trying to get by. Graham managed to gain a couple car lenghts advantage
over the next few laps and again Wade reeled him in to run bumper to bumper
by the ninety-third lap. On lap ninety-four, Wade ran hard for the inside
trying again for the lead but spun himself out bringing out a caution.
Wilkie again had the ouside for the double file restart with the laps
running out and a fierce battle with Graham, Cottam, Wilkie, Smith, and
Copp
still in the hunt. On lap ninety-seven Smith entered the pits after running
out of fuel and in the mix all night. When the dust settled, Graham hung
on for the win followed by Cottam, Copp, Wade, and Crocker rounding out
the top five positions in a very highly contested Stock Car event.

May
31/10 - Saturday's
program featured
Trophy Dashes for the Stock Car
Series, Heat races for both classes
as well as Feature events for each Series. Ryan Wade and Ronnie
Kiefert were victorious in Trophy Dash action while Wade and Aaron
Wilkie took the honors in Heat race action.
Ronnie Kiefert and Sam Hunt shared the front row for
seventy-five laps of racing in the competitive Stock Car Series running
for the Lorraine and Jim Haslam Memorial Trophy on Hall of Fame
Night. Kiefert got the early lead followed by Hunt, Brent Smith, Kyle
Cottam, and Dave Reside. Reside
moved into the fourth position after four laps dropping Cottam back a
spot. On lap sixteen, the yellow flag came out as Smith got involved with
Daryl Crocker going through turn one and two. Crocker spun out and Smith
had nowhere to go and spun out himself breaking the rear axle thus ending
his night after running in third.
On a double file restart, Kiefert now had Ryan Wade
on his outside to take the green flag. Wade quickly took the lead position
and was followed by Dan Myers, Kiefert, and Aaron Wilkie. On lap twenty,
Wilkie moved up to third while Steve Copp took up the fourth spot one
lap later. On lap twenty-four, Wilkie continued his charge forward by
taking the second spot from Myers. On lap thirty-six, the yellow came
out followed quickly by the red flag as Jeff Hamstra came to a stop on
turn four while track crews cleaned oil or water off the track.
After
a short delay, Wilkie lined up on Wade's outside for the resumption of
racing. Wade got out to the lead on the restart with Wilkie on his bumper
and Myers still in the mix. On lap thirty-nine, Daryl Crocker moved into
the fifth spot dropping Kiefert back to sixth. Over the next several laps,
Wilkie tried everything to get by Wade dropping back several car lenghts
and then getting up to the rear bumper
on Wade again as they were going through lapped traffic. On lap seventy,
the yellow came out and Wade entered the pits with a flat tire handing
the lead to Wilkie, a lead he would hold for the checkered flag. Myers
hung on for the second spot with Copp, Wade, and Crocker rounding out
the top five positions.

May 10/10
- Eighteen nice looking
Stock Cars checked in led by Jim Steen and Mike Rutty for fifty scheduled
laps for a Feature event. As the field entered turn one Jeff Hamstra made
a daring move and dove to the inside and grabbed the early lead going down
the backstretch followed by Chris MacInerny and Dave Reside. Reside took
over the second spot only three laps gone while Ryan Wade, back behind the
wheel of the #95 car, jumped up to run third after five laps.
On lap six the yellow caution came out for a major crash coming
out of turn four as Sam Hunt, Daryl Crocker, and Geoff Morris all got together
with Hunt and Crocker into the frontstretch wall and Morris sliding to a
stop in the center of the track. All drivers were unhurt but Hunt and Crocker's
night would be finished with major damage done to both cars. Morris was
able to drive away and with a little work would return to the race. At the
same time, it was discovered that transmission oil had leaked onto the track
so the race was halted for cleanup of the wreck and the oil.
After several minutes delay, Ryan Wade and Jeff Hamstra led
a double file restart back to green flag racing as officials dropped the
fifty laps to thirty-five as the time became a factor. With the drop of
the green flag, Wade quickly took over the lead and began to run away with
Hamstra, Reside, Larry Graham, and MacInerny lining up behind him. Dan Myers
took a turn running fifth but on lap seventeen surrendered that position
to Aaron Wilkie. On lap twenty-two the yellow came back out as Garrett Smith
spun around. This time Wade had Wilkie on his side for the double file restart.
Wade again got the advantage and went back to the lead with Wilkie running
second. Over the remaining laps the field ran clean as Wade took the checkered
flag followed by Wilkie, Cottam, Graham and Hamstra rounding out the top
five in another tough and very competitive Stock Car Feature event.

April
12/10 - Western
Speedway opened the 2010 racing season with the Island Dwarf Car Series,
the I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks, and the Stock Car Series on Saturday night and
it was a tough opening for the Stock Cars. The night's action included
Trophy Dashes for each series plus Heat races and the exciting Feature
events.
Fifteen
beautifully prepared Stock Cars took the green flag for forty laps of
racing with Sam Hunt and Chris Mackinerny on the front row. For the first
eight laps Mackinerny and Hunt ran door handle to door handle with each
driver trading the lead while side by side racing behind them left little
room for errors. Mike Rutty and Dave Reside got together early spinning
in turn one but no caution flag as they got going in the right direction.
Jeff Hamstra, Aaron Wilkie, and Kyle Cottam were packed together behind
the front runners. On lap eight the yellow came out as several cars got
tangled on the frontstretch that included Hamstra, Wilkie, and Kirt Rompain
driving Ryan Wade's #95 car. Rompain tried to duck to the inside of Wilkie
and Hamstra but got collected up with Hamstra's car sitting on the hood
of both Rompain and Wilkie's as they struck the inside front wall. Wilkie
and Hamstra returned to racing but Rompain's ride was pulled to the pits
with a lot of damage all around. On the double file restart, Mackinerny
and Hunt found themselves running side by side again for the next
four laps. Behind them, Larry Graham, Dave Reside, Daryl Crocker, Dan
Myers, and Steve Copp were all packed together challenging each position.
Graham made an inside move going three wide through turn one and that
didn't work as everyone got shuffled around. On lap fifteen, Graham and
Reside got locked together as they wnet by the start finish line bringing
out a yellow flag. They got themselves unlocked and rejoined the field.
On the restart, Hunt and Mackinerny still shared the front row but Hunt
entered the pits before the next lap was complete. By lap seventeen, Mackinerny
had Daryl Crocker and Dan Myers to contend with. Crocker made a daring
move on lap twenty-one and grabbed the lead with Myers and Graham still
in the mix. After one more lap the yellow came out again as Myers had
trouble going through turn four. On the restart, Graham and Crocker led
the field around to green and the trading of positions started once again.
On lap twenty-six, Graham got the clear lead from
Crocker with Reside now running third. On lap thirty-one, Wilkie took
over the third spot with everyone still in a tight pack. On lap thirty-seven
Wilkie made the pass for second dropping Crocker back to third and Reside
fourth. On the very last lap, Steve Copp got by Reside and settled for
fourth. Up front, Graham took the checkered flag with Wilkie and Crocker
finishing second and third respectively.
This
Series has always been competitive and if tonight was an indication of
things to come, it should prove to be an action packed event night after
night.

16 /10 - A recent Email from ISCRA Secretary Kim Ferrie:
Ok, here are a few changes for the up coming year.
-
1st and most important there has been talk about changes to the
Cylinder heads for the home built motors. Below there is an email
that I have been asked to forward on to everyone from Dave (Head
Tech) in regards to this issue. If there are any questions regarding
this please contact Dave directly by email.
"With
further examination of the T.B.I. cylinder heads that were discussed
at the stock car rules meeting " The 1987 through to 1994 cylinder
heads will not just bolt on to an earlier block and fit the older
style intake manifolds without modification. Therefore they will
be omited from the rule changes, and the cylinder head rule will
stay the same." Thanks, Dave
dwmechanic2003@yahoo.ca
- 2nd
- Steel braided brake lines are now allowed as a result of safety
issues (optional)
- 3rd-
4" ride heights are now allowed for leaf sprung cars only (eg,
Nova)
- 4th
- 1/2" bolts are allowed to bolt idler arms and mount control
and trailing arms on metric cars
- 5th
- Memebership fees have increased this year to $150.00 (this includes
car #, driver and 4 crew members, each additional crew member
is $30.00) Reason for this increase is to reduce the cost of your
banquet tickets at the end of the year, (which always seems to
be an issue with some people), as well I know that it is easier
money wise for most of you at the beginning of the year then paying
more for your banquet tickets at the end of the year, as well
as your crew members should be members of the club if they are
in anyway going to be part of any desicions that are made within
the club.
-
6th - ROOKIES - Starting positions are up to the discrection of
the driver. We do not have a rule on this, so if you choose to
start in your qualifying position or choose to start at the back
it is up to you, but please let me know before I do up the lineups
at the beginning of the racing events. When making this desicion
please take into concideration your fellow racers and drive to
your ablility not the ability of others.
- 7th
- The 1 second rule will be in affect for EVERY race this year,
regardless of how may cars we have. This means, that the cars
who have qualified 1 second or slower than the fast qualifier
will start the main event at the rear of the field. (No passing
points will be in effect for these cars)
- 8th
- For those of you who rent transponders, Darrell has offered
you all a deal. If you pay your transponder rental for the year
on our FIRST race night, April 10th (tentative) you will only
be charged $100.00 instead of $15.00 per night, savings of approx
$50.00. GREAT DEAL !!!!!
- 9th
- I am working with Harold on arranging a second 100 lap race.
The dates that we are looking at that might work are May 8th or
Sept 25th (Championship Night), as soon as a desicion has been
made I will let you know.
- 10th-
And finally, 2010 Rule Books are in the process of being printed.
Thank you very much to Gene Clutchey for taking care of this for
us, greatly appreciated. I will be out at the first couple practices
to issue these and your memberships to you all. If you are able
to come out and get your memberships from me on these nights that
would be much appreciated as our first night of racing is going
to be a crazy busy night for me.
If
anybody has any questions about any of these changes (other than
the Tech Rules) please contact me by email or phone ASAP. ************
Just under 8 weeks till our first race of the year. GOOD LUCK to
everyone in the 2010 race season.*************

the Langford Legion on Station Road.
Please review
your 2009 rule books and if anyone has any concerns about any of the rules
please email Dave Green (Head Tech) at dwmechanic2003@yahoo.ca
with those concerns. We will not be going over the whole rule book - just
the emails that Dave receives with be up for discussion.
Please note
that everyone is welcome to come to the meeting and be involved in the
discussion of the rules, but when it comes time to vote on the rules you

11/09 - The Island Stock Car Racing Association lost
a good friend this week with the sudden passing of Debbie
Cooper.
Before
our club was formed, Debbie worked hard for all the drivers
and teams to make sure our best interests were being looked
after. She took care of the points and pay-outs, offered a
shoulder to cry on when you had a bad night, and wasn't afraid
to tell you to get your head out of your butt if she thought
you were being stupid.
Respected
by all - loved by many - she'll be sorely missed.

20 /09 - Attn: ISCRA MEMBERS
Effective immediately any stock car running a crate motor will no
longer have the assessed weight penalty. Western Speedway still
reserves the right to take further action to have the crate engine
cars as equal as the non crate engine cars .

March
12 /09 - Here is a new rule that has been brought up by
our Head Tech Dave Greene. Remember this is a safety issue and that should
be first and foremost the most important thing. If there are and concerns
with this rule please email Kim at kferrie@shaw.ca
or Dave at dwmechanic@yahoo.ca
Every
car should have a ground strap from the fill spout of the fuel cell to
the chassis, to prevent a static spark from the funnel while refueling
Dave would
like to see that all cars have this in place for the first race of the
season.
Nov
8/08 - Proposed rule changes & ammendments have been posted
- Click Here to view. Please
take some time to review the rules for next year and discuss them with
your team.
A meeting
to discuss and vote on the recommended changes will be held Tuesday, November
18, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Langford Legion, 761 Station Ave.
